Bishop Ryan parents,
I am currently in Medora for the Fall Clergy Conference. Our presenter this year is Dr. Peter Kleponis, Ph.D. He is a licensed clinical therapist who specializes in the understanding and treating the pandemic of pornography in our culture. It has been a very informative day.
He has some great resources that all parents should take a look at. The first is his website integrityrestored.com. Every parent in the technological world that we live in today can benefit from the wisdom that Dr. Kleponis passes on to us through his work. He also has a book called Integrity Restored that comes highly recommended. If it is anything like his presentation, then it will be worth your while.
My last blog post was about virtue. It is the basis of happiness and a sign of psychological and emotional healthiness. I encourage you to pay attention to the things (ideas, images, media, etc) that are shaping your children. A huge part of the environment that our children are growing up in is affected by pornography: statistically the first exposure to pornography that children have is at 11 years. This should give us pause... about how we are protecting or not protecting our children from this degrading part of our culture. St. Gemma Galgani's quote from the header is a beautiful expression of what we should want for our children - purity that allows the body to become spiritual so that the soul can shine through their gaze.
I hope that Dr. Kleponis' resources will be helpful to you!
